As in 2008, those most severely afflicted by Obama Derangement Syndrome have embraced the siren song of secession. The re-election of a president through a constitutionally established process is somehow alien to them to the point of illegitimacy. I have no sympathy whatsoever for persons who first sought to inhibit and now seek to nullify the voice of We The People through calls of sedition. Over 110 million of We The People made our choice and with a popular vote majority and an Electoral College landslide made a definitive statement about America's direction.
We The People....
....believe that women are better arbiters of their own reproductive health decisions than government
....reject the notion that policy should be dictated by he who owns the biggest megaphone
....believe that investment in education, infrastructure, alternative energy and other items that don't generate high, near-term financial return is an important part of government's role
....understand that without proper regulation, capitalism could implode in upon itself and take America with it
....believe that diplomacy and economic measures should lead foreign policy, not the ability to wield military strength
....understand that deficit reduction requires both spending cuts AND incremental tax revenues
....believe that there is a direct relationship between the educational preparedness of the American people and American prosperity
....know that corporations are beholden to an investor class that is at best agnostic to the interests of labor and to the long-term collective good of society
....believe that neither gender, race, religion (or disdain of), physical capacity nor sexual preference disqualifies an individual from the full rights and responsibilities of citizenship
....know that we owe a debt to those who swear to protect us at sometimes great personal sacrifice, even to the point of their death
....believe that our criminal justice system is long overdue for an overhaul, particularly with respect to our horribly failed drug policies
....know that being a "real American" has absolutely nothing to do with physical appearance, ancestral origin or religious belief
....believe that a company's responsibilities to the communities in which it does business extend beyond the point where money is exchanged for a product or service
....understand that regardless of our comfort with the outcome, representative government elected through free, fair and equal opportunity balloting is the only acceptable method of addressing broad policy issues
....we believe that access to health care is a right, not a privilege of wealth
....believe that an unlimited supply of weapons with unlimited firepower goes far beyond that which is necessary to protect person and household
We The People re-elected Barack Hussein Obama as President of the United States of America because we believe that his work in office to date and his stated plans hone far more closely to the considerations listed above. Those who didn't vote for him have multiple options, none of them involve taking the country back or taking the country backward. Those interested in seceding because their fellow Americans disagree with them on a presidential choice perhaps were never "real Americans" in the first place and there is no limit to my contempt for such seditious attitudes.
I didn't vote for presidents Nixon, Reagan, H.W. Bush or W. Bush. But they were no less my presidents than Carter, Clinton and Obama and their election never compelled me to think about separating myself from the nation that my ancestors fought to become full citizens of. Perhaps those who embrace sedition simply cannot accept the challenge that America's growing diversity presents to deeply held concepts of cultural hegemony. Too damn bad. Welcome to a new America that increasingly reflects what We The People should be about. Those incapable of living in that America are free to follow Mitt Romney's advice and self-secede.
