The likelihood that the next president will be picking two if not three SCOTUS justices is reason enough to vote for President Obama's re-election. Mitt Romney's expressed disdain for nearly half the country is alone reason enough to vote for President Obama's re-election. On the other hand, I suspect that there are far more than 100 very good reasons to vote for President Obama's re-election. But 100 seems a nice round number and since this is my hundredth Newsvine article, I thought identifying at least that many reasons seems apropos. So here we go (in no particular order of importance):
- President Obama has demonstrated a willingness to seek solutions to our challenges through compromise, even to the point of angering his voting base. Republicans, on the other hand, vote out legislators for having the temerity to seek negotiated solutions to policy issues.
- President Obama has appointed a record number of female jurists to the federal bench and radically increased the gender diversity of the United States Supreme Court with no deterioration or compromise in jurisprudential excellence.
- President Obama has offered a four trillion dollar federal debt reduction proposal that included nearly three dollars of spending cuts for every dollar of new tax revenue. This “Grand Bargain” was rejected by the republican caucus after House Speaker John Boehner initially supported it.
- President Obama signed legislation to establish compensation fairness for women. Because of that legislation, employers that have maintained discriminatory compensation practices have less an ability to hide behind a statute of limitations.
- President Obama has attempted to address concerns about illegal immigration, deporting record numbers of the undocumented, particularly those who have committed crimes.
- President Obama has curtailed efforts to deport young people who have been living here since childhood and who are contributing to American society.
- President Obama pushed for and signed legislation that allows a brave man or woman of any sexual orientation to serve openly in our armed forces.
- President Obama got a new START treaty signed, enabling better control of the worldwide nuclear arsenal.
- President Obama made it illegal for an insurance company to deny me coverage because of a pre-existing condition while his opponent is supports such insurance company practices…..wait, he’s against it?.....huh?.....oh, he’s now for it?.....**sigh**
- Because of President Obama, being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition.
- President Obama made it illegal for an insurance company to drop my coverage if I get sick.
- President Obama has enabled my son to stay on my insurance until he is better established in his own household.
- President Obama eliminated the financial middleman in student loans, thereby decreasing their cost both to the taxpayer and to the student.
- President Obama eased the burden of student loan debt by capping the monthly payment amount to a percentage of the young person’s income.
- Osama Bin Laden is dead and President Obama gave the order.
- President Obama continues to decapitate Al Qaeda leadership.
- President Obama enabled the uprising that resulted in Mohammar Gaddafi’s removal without putting a single American boot on the ground.
- President Obama has increased support for sick and wounded veterans.

- Since 1961, 41 million private sector jobs have been created under democratic administrations while only 24 million such jobs have been created under republican administrations.
- Major stock indices are approximately 1.7 times higher today than they were on the day that the President was inaugurated. Anyone buying and holding an index based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average would be enjoying a 14.9% rate of return on their investment.
- President Obama believes that women are better suited to make their own health care and reproductive decisions than government is to dictate them.
- Democrats believe that the Violence Against Women Act should apply to all women while republicans believe that an undocumented immigrant should have no legal recourse to domestic violence.
- More than half of the donations to President Obama’s campaign are $200.00 or less, while nearly half of donations to his opponent’s campaign are at the $2,500 maximum, providing a clear indication of whose interests are more likely to be served under each proposed administration.
- President Obama demonstrates fan loyalty to sports teams while his opponent demonstrates tax loyalty to sports team owners.
- The audience at the Democratic National Convention looked like America while the audience at the republican convention looked little different than it did in 1960.

- Though I don’t agree with every one of them, President Obama has demonstrated the character to make some tough, “bet your presidency” decisions throughout his first term, including those with which many in his base disagree. His opponent can’t even bring himself to rebuke birtherism within his coalition.
- President Obama has more foreign policy experience than his opponent.

- President Obama played a major leadership role in the G-20 nations’ response to the global economic crisis.

- The congressional republican caucus ran for and won control of the House of Representatives under the mantra of jobs, jobs, jobs. Since then, they have produced nothing, nothing, nothing that actually results in more jobs.

- The republican congressional caucus has done everything in its power to sabotage this presidency, even to the point of sabotaging the American economy, blocking any and all attempts at progress through an unprincipled and reflexive opposition to President Obama’s proposals – including proposals that republicans once endorsed. Republicans should not be rewarded for shirking their responsibilities through such recklessly self-interested and damaging behavior in the name of politics.
- The entire economic agenda of the President’s opponent is so unpopular, so malignant and so impractical that he knows no thinking, moderately aware citizen would vote for him if he were to provide the details of that agenda. So his basic argument is “trust me, I’m a rich businessman”.

- I will enjoy watching the rabid part of the republican coalition apoplectically blame their defeat on establishment republicans and vice versa.

- With his encouragement of “Birtherism” and his continuing lies about the President’s welfare reform activities, The President’s opponent has embraced the well-used Southern Strategy tactic of appealing to the stupidity, the ignorance and the bigotry of an apparently still significant segment of the voting electorate.
- I believe that “voter ID” and other laws implemented by republican legislatures are a modern version of the poll tax and other Jim Crow-era shenanigans that kept black people from being able to vote. - Saying that one likes to fire people could be a gaffe. But after “corporations are people too”, “bet you $10,000”, “I’m not concerned about the poor” and “no one has asked to see our birth certificates”, connecting the dots reveals a clear picture – the President’s opponent is a first class jerk.
- The President’s opponent has told me that, in the unlikely event he is elected, he won’t be as much my president as he is anyone else’s president.
- The President’s opponent believes that my vote for President Obama makes me someone who is dependent upon government, who sees myself as a victim, who doesn’t take responsibility for my own life and who believes myself entitled to food, health care and housing.
